Easy Spring with MVMT Watches

I've been a watch collector for about ten years now.  Although my collection throughout the years has ballooned to a dozen or so at one time and owning a significant amount more than that throughout the years, the collection has funneled down to only a hand full.  From Azimuth to Zenith and everything in between, most of my watches have been of the Swiss-made mechanical variety.  It wasn't until I created a fashion blog that I started venturing out into fashion and practical watches.

Watch collecting stemmed from love of the craftsmanship and the art of watch making.  That's probably why I never strayed from Swiss watch making heritage.  Then came along MVMT Watches.  I've received more compliments and interest in one week than I have with any other watch.  From "What brand is that?  I love that watch" to "Is that a MVMT watch?  I follow them on Instagram," the buzz that this watch has received has been shocking.

Simple and classic--it's the perfect blend of size, presence, and styling.  It's just as comfortable on the beach as it is under the sleeve of a collared shirt.  It's a classic three-hand with date function watch on a fantastic leather strap, but is updated with a modern larger size.  Make sure to check out the brand and head over to their Facebook and Instagram for great giveaways.

Fall Plaid with Ted Baker, J Crew, & Gucci

This past Friday I was asked to help judge an Edgar Allan Poe themed fashion show for the Sacramento Film & Music Festival.  Sacramento's young fashion talent represented well and I was honored to be a part of the festivities.

Although it is still hot in Northern California, I've started breaking out the fall lineup but balanced the heat with lighter fabrics such as this Ted Baker linen blazer.

Summer Stripes & Pleats with Paul Smith and Original Penguin

Pleats on pants is a great way to date yourself and bring down an outfit because it has more to do with function rather than substance.  To accomplish a modern look and clean lines, typically we choose slim pants with a flat front.  But in recent years, designers have used the pleat as a design piece rather than a means of comfort for men.

Rather than the elongated single and double pleats of your dad's pants, the modern pleat is typically singular, smaller, and inverted.  The pleats of yesteryear's pants face outward creating a wider silhouette  but modern pleats face inward bringing the viewers eyes inwards.  It's analogous to how stripes trick the eye, vertical stripes make a person look longer and taller, while horizontal stripes makes a person look shorter and wider.

The next time you go pants shopping, think about adding some pleats to your wardrobe.

Gentlemen Traveler

Traveling is like speed dating or a job interview.  Whether you're at the airport bar or waiting at the terminal for the flight, you or someone else is bound to strike up a conversation.  It's  these spontaneous conversations that make me wonder why some people think it's okay to travel in the same outfit that they went to bed in the previous night.  There’s no doubt that traveling can be arduous: TSA screenings, long flights, or uncomfortable seats.  But if you wouldn't wear the outfit on a day out or even to work, then traveling shouldn’t be a green light for wearing PJs out of the house.

A travel outfit doesn't mean you need to sacrifice comfort.  Instead, it should be more of a compromise between style and functionality, as you certainly don’t want to deal with taking off several layers of clothing at the TSA line.  On the next red-eye or road trip, ditch the slim jeans for chinos, replace the lace-ups with loafers, and whenever possible, pack everything in a weekender.  On trips lasting less than a week, a weekender is my only bag—not only am I able to avoid check-in lines, but a bag adds a little bit of GQ to my outfit.
